January

Gangshow

The Scout Gangshow has been a part of Scouting since the 1930s. We are very lucky in Harpenden to have the longest continuously running Gang Show in the world, since 1949!
The performance is a true triumph. Our Cubs and Scouts have the chance to either join the cast to perform in the Gangshow or to join our annual trip to watch the show

March

National Scouts Monopoly Run

The event is played in Central London and involves visiting the real life sites that the Monopoly board game is based on. There is an iPhone/Android app which allows teams to compete at once in real time, so this event is about tactics and speed in getting around the capital!

District Cub Camp

Sleeping in tents at a local site with other Cub packs from across the Harpenden & Wheathampstead District. Activities include wide games, archery, orienteering, treasure hunts, camp fire and pioneering.

Scouts Go-Karting

For Scouts age 10+, petrol powered karting in Dunstable.

April

St George's Day Parade

This may be England’s day but since Baden-Powell chose St George as the Patron Saint of our international Movements, it is Scouting’s and Guiding’s day too. We have great reasons to celebrate, and say `thanks’. The Parade is spectacular, and led by the Harpenden Pipes and Drums, involving all Scouts and Guides from the Harpenden & Wheathampstead District.

May

Held each summer all beavers, cubs, scouts and their wider families are invited to join in our biggest event of the year. We also hold a short Annual General Meeting to provide parents with our Trustee Report and elect members to the Trustee Board.

The challenge is designed to test Scouts through a range of physical and intellectual activities and to develop Leadership and Teamwork skills. Usually 1st Harpenden bring back a trophy or two and we've achieved Second (and Third) overall out of 150 teams a number of times, we are hoping to take top spot at some point!
